Arapahoe girls basketball team headed to state

The girls basketball district finals began Friday with three area teams moving into the State tourney on Thursday in Lincoln.

Arapahoe's girls will travel to the State tournament after pushing over Axtell in Elm Creek Friday. Wauneta-Palisade and Perkins County also earned a chance to go to Lincoln this week as well.

Southern Valley and Maywood both fell in the district finals. The Eagles came up short to Bridgeport 59-46 and Maywood fell to Sioux County 43-32.

Cheryl Braithwait led Arapahoe to the win over Axtell. Braithwait had 30 points and made 6 two-pointers and 3 three-point shots. Brittany Fanning followed with 10 points and Jennie Clinton had 7. Clinton was also 3-6 in free throws and Fanning had 2 three-point shots.

Jode Runge led Axtell with 18 pints. Tracia Norblade followed with 10 and Kelsey Wells had 8.

Mallory Murdoch posted 14 points against Bridgeport. Murdoch also had 4 two-point shots and 1 three-pointer and was 3 for 4 in free throws. Ashley Strickland added in 12 points and both Hennessey Hogeland and Emily Witte had 6 points. Strickland was 4 for 4 in free throws and Witte and Alyssa Steele were both 3 for 4. Strickland also made 4 two-pointers and Hogeland had 3.

Lauren Faessler led Bridgeport to the win over the Tigers with 11 points. Courtney Laux followed with 10 and Morgan Faessler had 9.
