The McCook College Foundation has announced the establishment of the Randy J. Matheny Memorial Patriot Scholarship as an enduring pledge to preserve remembrance, and as a recognition to honor, with distinction, respect, and gratitude, the love, devotion and service of Randy J. Matheny to his country.

Randy J. Matheny, of McCook was a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard's 1074th Transport-ation Co. based in Sidney, and was killed on Feb. 4 while serving in Iraq.

The Foundation is matching a $5,000 anonymous donation from a McCook family who wishes to honor Randy Matheny's patriotism to his country, thus launching this ongoing memorial scholarship with a combined initial donation of $10,000.

The Randy J. Matheny Memorial Patriot Schol-arship will be a $1,000 annual award to a student attending McCook Community College, and be effective with academic year 2007-08. Full or part-time, traditional or non-traditional students enrolled in any approved course of study offered by MCC, or through the MCC Advanced Studies Center, will be eligible to apply. This board designated recognition scholarship will be administered by the Foundation including the application, selection, and award process.
