BAZINE, Kan. -- Theodore "Ted" Wittman, 90, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2007) at Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kan.
He was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Russell, Kan., to John and Elizabeth (Keil) Wittman. He moved to Bazine Community as a child and attended school there.
On June 14, 1936, he married Wilma Hoersch. He worked as a farmer and a mechanic and was a life long member of the Bazine Community.
He was a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church for many years. He was also on the church's building committee as treasurer, Sunday school superintendant and deacon.
He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, City Council, a volunteer fireman, Bazine township board member and the Golden Years Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, Wilma; son Raymond Wittman; grandson, Aaron Gathman; brother, John Wittman; and sisters, Pauline Wittman, Mollie Strauch and Elizabeth Ehrlich.
Survivors include his children, Ardella and husband, Urban Gathman of Larned, Kan., Ethel and husband, Clarence of Bazine, Calvin and wife, Earlene Wittman of Bazine, and Willetta and husband, Alex Bieker of McCook; a sister, Marie Krug of Bazine; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at St. Paul Congregational Church in Bazine, with the Rev. Sam Flick officiating. Burial will be in the Bazine Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Congregational Church or donors choice.
