ATWOOD --?Antoinette Gertrude (Vrbas) Horinek, 96, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2007) at Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.

She was born Nov. 15, 1910, in rural Rawlins County to Frank J. and Mary (Bartosovsky) Vrbas. In 1915, the family moved to Bijou, Minn., and lived there until 1917, when they moved to Newkirk, Okla. They returned to Rawlins?County in 1919.

On Aug. 10, 1932, she married Lew E. Horinek at St. John's Catholic Church in Beardlsey, Kan. They lived on a farm north of Atwood. After his death in death in October 1976, she moved into Atwood.

She was a member of the Sts. Cyril, Methodius Catholic Church and later the Sacred Heart Church in Atwood and the Christian Mother's Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lew; parents; two sons-in-law, Kenneth E. Long and Edgar A. Skolout; a daughter-in-law, Mary C. Horinek; granddaughter, Jennifer A. Long; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth M. Cook; four brothers, Frank, William, Bernard and Raymond Vrbas; and three sisters, Helen and Alice Horinek and Gertrude Havel.

Survivors include her son, Ronald and wife, Janet of Scott City, Kan.; four daughters, Pat Skolout of Atwood, Donna Long of Scott City, Janet Vaughan and husband, Mike of Hawthorne, Calif., and Marilyn Jensen and husband, Dave of Hays, Kan.; one brother, Charles and wife, Mary of Palisade; four sisters, Marian Ruda of Atwood, Adella Harry of Colby, Kan., Martha Soucheck and husband, Bud of Denver, Colo., and Frances Ham and husband, John of Thornton, Colo.; in-laws, Edith Vrbas, Bernard Horinek, Francis Soucheck, Francis Horinek all of Atwood, and Carolyn Vrbas of Hays, Kan.; 23 granchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Galen Long. Interment will be in Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m., to 8 p.m., with a parish vigil and rosary at 5 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Atwood Good Samaritan Center and to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
