GPAC Girls Tourney: 'Riders, Broncos advance

SOUTHWEST -- Southwest and Wauneta-Palisade's girls moved into the championships of the Golden Plains Activities Conference, after rallying back in their semifinals games on Thursday.

Southwest battled Maywood for the chance at the GPAC title.

The Roughriders fell behind the Tigers in the first half 32-22, but fired back in the second part of the game to take the 60-54 win.

"Southwest came from 15 down in the third quarter," said Southwest coach Dennis Troester.

"Alisha Weaver provided the much needed spark to fuel the comeback.

Chelsey Quigley led the Roughriders in scoring with 18 points.

Abby Houghtelling and Alisha Weaver both added in 12 points and Magan Dolan had 6.

Dolan led the team in 10 rebounds and Lisa Lord had 8. Alisha Weaver had 4 steals and 2 assists along with Quigley and Ashley Weaver.

Brooke and Susan Koester teamed up with 13 points each for Maywood. Michelle Hastings followed with 11 and Celsie Contreras had 9.

Staci Koester led in rebounds with 11 and Brooke had 10.

Hastings had 4 steals and Brooke had 3 and Susan and Staci both had 2 assists.

Wauneta-Palisade's girls also made a comeback over Arapahoe 42-40.

Arapahoe looked to win the game after taking the lead 27-14 in the first half.

Kaleia Alberts tipped the game for the Broncos scoring at the buzzer to take the win.

Kaleia Alberts posted 19 points for the Broncos. Allison Ellicott followed with 6 points and Brittany O'Neil and Katie Flaig joined in with 5 points.

Cheryl Braithwait totaled 18 points for the Warriors. Brittany Fanning put in 11 points and Jessica Stagemeyer had 4.

Southwest and Wauneta-Palisade square off for the championship at 6 p.m. (CT) Saturday.

Arapahoe and Maywood take the floor in the consolation round at 3 p.m. (CT).

Both games will be in Benkelman.

NORTH PLATTE -- Eustis-Farnam girls basketball team rolled past Paxton 59-37 Thursday night at the Central Platte Conference tournament at North Platte.

Katie Fagot paced the Knights with 22 points. Lindsey Ferrell and Jacey Schultheiss both scored 12 points.

Erica Rhodes led Paxton with 8 points.

Eustis-Farnam, ranked sixth in Nebraska Class D-1, improved to 12-2. Paxton is 7-7.

"We moved the ball well on offense and shot a nice percentage from the field tonight," said coach Brad Dunlap.

"Our defense was effective, but Paxton played well, especially in the first half. Katie Fagot shot lights out for us, but our post players helped make that happen with some good kick outs.

"The girls are continuing to work hard and are staying focused on one game at a time. This is a great bunch of kids and hopefuly they can continue this run we're on."
