THE?VILLAGES, Fla. -- Virgil "Bill" Dwight McMahan, 80, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 2007) at The Villages, Fla.   He was 80 years old.

He was born Nov. 17, 1926, at McCook to Joseph and Belva (Rowland) McMahan.  He graduated from McCook High School in 1944.

He married Elgin LaVerne "Jean" Brooks on March 29, 1955, at McCook. They made their home in McCook where he was employed by the Nebraska Public Power District.

He entered the US Army on Jan. 20, 1946, and then transferred to the US Air Force and served during World War II.  He was honorably discharged after faithfully serving his country.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Belva McMahan.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; daughters, Tamrah McCarville and Tolana Kersey; sister, Jean Brenning; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook, with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 5 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.  Friends may go online to extend condolences at www.carpenterbreland.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
