STRATTON -- Georgia V. Sis, 93, died Friday (Jan. 26, 2007), at Community Hospital in McCook.
She was born March 26, 1913, on her family's farm in Rawlins County to George and Mary (Novak) Pitner and attended country school near her home. She also attended beauty school in Denver, Colo., before returning to northwest Kansas.
On Jan. 4, 1931, she was united in marriage to James J. Sis at St. John Catholic Church near Beardsley, Kan.
The couple lived in Washington State for two years before returning to Rawlins County where they raised their sons and farmed for more than 50 years. After his passing in 1981, she moved to her new home in Stratton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Pitner; son, James D. Sis; one grandson, Steven Sis; two great-grandsons, Cody and Greg; sister, Francis; and brothers, John, Ralph, and Victor.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald J. Sis and wife, Adonna of McCook, Dennis Sis and wife, Joyce of Ogallala; daughter-in-law, Bette Sis of Benkelman; sister-in-law, Tillie Pitner of Atwood; 17 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratton with the Rev. Sean Redmond, Celebrant. Interment will follow services at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.
Visitation is today, 4-7 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratton, with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m.
