Oakley girls claim Oberlin championship, boys title game ppd.

OBERLIN -- Oakley's girls were named the Oberlin invitational champions and Cambridge's girls finished third in the consolations round on Saturday.

The boys championship game and fifth place games were postponed due to the weather.

Quinter 's girls won fifth place in the girls division over Hoxie and St. Francis took seventh of Jefferson Academy.

Jefferson finished second in the boys division over Quinter and Oakley took seventh after edging out Oberlin.

Oakley earned the girls championship title after pushing over Rawlins County 55-42.

Oakley took the lead in the first quarter. Rawlins County came back in the second ending the first half 27-23. Oakley returned in the third and fourth to take the win over the Buffaloes.

Teeter led Oakley to the win with 17 points. Dennis followed with 14 points and Weiser had 8.

Sara Miller put in 10 points for the Buffaloes. Megan Cahoj came in with 8 points and Macy Migchelbrink had 6.

Cambridge's girls bowled over Oberlin 50-39 for third place. Oberlin led the game 21-20 over the Trojans in the first half. Cambridge led in the third quarter and ended up with the win.

Tracy Keyser tallied 29 points for the Trojans. Frankie Petersen trailed with 12 points and Shelby Schultz had 8.

Tricia Dorhorst led the Oberlin girls. Dorhorst put in 14 points and Lauren Fortin had 8.

St. Francis burned Jefferson Academy's girls for seventh place 63-32. Sidnee Crabtree posted 17 points for the St. Francis win. Megan Rice, Hollie Keller and Alecia Zimbelman teamed up with 10 points each and Lauren Ross had 6.

Jones led Jefferson with 15 points. Hall had 9 points and Barquero had 4.

Quinter took fifth place in the girls division after pushing down Hoxie 54-48. Megan Grandison led the Quinter girls with 14 points and Jacee Coberly had 12.

Rebecca Farber led Hoxie with 17 points. Tiffany Goetz and Corinna Hoyt joined together with 9 points and both Ashley Kennedy and Bailey Ochs had 6.

Due to the weather the St. Francis and Hoxie boys championship and Cambridge and Rawlins County fifth place games were postponed a date was not set by press time.

Jefferson County's boys took the third place finish against Quinter edging by them 75-66. Ryan Holocher tallied 31 points for Jefferson. Blaine Swanson followed with 24 points and Kenny Yockey had 12.

Trent Blackwill posted 37 points for Quinter. Edward Machen and Kirby Benisch teamed up with 10 points and both Brandon Wittman and Luke Ochs had 4.

Oakley earned the seventh place finish, after squeezing by Oberlin 66-60. The two teams tied it up in the first half 33-33. Oakley pulled ahead in the third to take the win over the Red Devils.

Paul Kuhlman took top scoring honors for Oakley. Kuhlman put in 40 points. Lex Parson and Chase Sperber added in 8 points.

Jobey Black led Oberlin with 22 points. Logan Fortin, Jacob Fortin and Nolan May all had 8 points.

TRENTON -- Hitchcock County's boys blasted Paxton 50-29 Saturday.

"We played a very good defense tonight and hit shots, when we needed to," said Falcons Coach Mike Tines. "This win gives the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament which would put us against Southwest."

Josh Kershaw led the Falcons to the win. Kershaw had 15 points. Austin Scott followed with 12 points and Tyrel Riggs had 6.

Taylor Jay led the Paxton team with 13 points. Nick Stokey had 7 and Steven Hesdon had 5 points.

EUSTIS -- Class D1's 8th-ranked Eustis-Farnam Knight girls held the Warriors to 12 points in the second half to win 51-41.

"It was simply a fun game to watch and coach," said coach Brad Dunlap. "Both teams played hard and turned the game into a track meet. The tempo was quick from the start to finish.

"Arapahoe shot lights out in the first half, but we shot pretty well too. In the second half my kids stepped it up defensively."

Jacey Schultheiss led the Knights with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots.

Lindsey Ferrell controlled the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking 2 shots.

Cheryl Braithwait led the Warriors with 20 points.

Eustis-Farnam will host Maxwell Friday. Arapahoe will start the RVL tourney at home against Bertrand Monday.
