Southern Valley boys fight off Axtell 66-53

SOUTHERN VALLEY -- The Southern Valley boys basketball team fought off the Axtell Wildcats 66-53 Friday at the Southern Valley gymnasium.

Brock Einspahr led Southern Valley with 17 points, Gaven Fults added 14. Jacob Becker was 6 for 6 from the free throw line finishing with 12 points.

Mitch Anderson netted 21 points with 8 rebounds to lead Axtell.

Axtell girls 57, Southern Valley 50

SOUTHERN VALLEY -- The Axtell Wildcats outscored the Southern Valley Eagle girls basketball team in the second half to win 57-50 Friday.

Kelsey Wells scored 14 points and pulled down 6 rebounds to lead Axtell. Heather Fecht added 13 and Jade Runge had 10 points.

Mallory Murdoch led the Eagles with 21 points. Ashley Strickland scored 13.

The Southern Valley boys and girls play at Bertrand Friday.

Arapahoe tourney games canceled

ARAPAHOE -- The second round of the Arapahoe Holiday Tourney was canceled and will not be rescheduled.

The tournament had been rescheduled for today from Friday because of heavy snow.

In first round girls games Thursday, Arapahoe lost to Sumner-Eddyville-Miller 54-40 and Pleasanton defeated Red Cloud 45-36.

In first round boys games Thursday, Arapahoe defeated S-E-M 45-37 and Pleasanton defeated Red Cloud 71-31.

Arapahoe plays at Medicine Valley Friday and hosts Loomis on Saturday.
