Prizes await first baby of the year

Thursday, December 28, 2006
Isaiah Charles Kendall turns one year old on Jan. 1, having served a year as the Gazette's "New Year's Baby" of 2006. He is the son of April and Michael Kendall of McCook and the little brother of Elijah, who will be six in February, and Kristine, who is eight. (Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Daily Gazette)

Happy, blue-eyed Isaiah Charles Kendall will pass his crown as the Gazette area's "New Year's Baby" of 2006 to the next little one born on the first day of the new year.

Isaiah was born at 7:59 a.m., Jan. 1, 2006, to April and Michael Kendall of McCook. He will share "first baby of the new year" honors with the first baby born after midnight, Jan. 1, 2007.

The new baby must be born within the Gazette's trade area (Dundy, Chase, Hayes, Hitchcock, Frontier, Red Willow and Furnas counties in Southwest Nebraska and Cheyenne, Rawlins and Decatur counties in Northwest Kansas) to parents who live within the same area.

Because area hospitals cannot release information about newborns, parents or other family members must contact the Gazette with the pertinent information.

To submit a new baby's statistics -- name, parents, time and place of birth, doctor's name and hospital -- contact the Gazette: (308) 345-4500, extension 113 and leave a message if necessary; fax, (308) 345-7881, attention Connie; or e-mail: cdiscoe@mccookgazette.com

The deadline to call the Gazette is noon, Tuesday, Jan. 2. If there is no "New Year's Baby" by that time and day, the contest will continue on a day-by-day basis.

The new baby will receive $25 gift certificates from: Eakes Office Plus, Southwest Implement, Pizza Hut/Taco Bell/KFC, Phones Etc., Alanna's Therapeutic Massage, Fuller's Restaurant, Unique Boutique, McCook National Bank and Farrell's of McCook and Big Mama's/Big Papa's and Mark's Pharmacy/Shirley K's of Cambridge.
