OBERLIN -- Karolyn Dorothea Muirhead, 82, died Thursday (Dec. 16, 2006) at Decatur County Hospital.
She was born May 5, 1924, in Oberlin to Herman and Helena (Roetter) May. She grew up on the family farm west of Oberlin. She attended St. John's Parochial School and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1942.
Sh married Atley Muirhead on Oct. 21, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed near Dresden, Kan., and moved to Oberlin in 1972. She worked as a nurses aide at Decatur County Hospital.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and Luthern Women's Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Atley Muirhead; and three brothers, Hubert, Elmer and Reinhart May.
Survivors include her son, Robert Muirhead and wife, Diane of Hays, Kan.; two daughters, Ruth Peters and husband, John of Walton, Kan., and Joan Laughmiller and husband, Jerry of Wellington, Kan.; three sister-in-laws, Jean May of Oxford, Mich., Peg May of Decatur, Ga., and Eva Nuatus of Oakdale, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Rick Langness officiating. Interment will follow in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be given in her name to St. John's Children Educational Fund.
