OXFORD -- Leroy A. Johnson, 70, died Wednesday (Dec. 13, 2006) at his home in Oxford.
He was born March 20, 1936, on the family farm two miles east of Oxford in Harlan County to Frank and Tina (Schroeder) Johnson. He received his education at Oxford, graduating from Oxford High School with the class of 1953. Following his education he was employed by his cousin, Dean Johnson at Johnson Implement, until engaging in the family farming business east of Oxford with his father.
On Oct. 2, 1965, he was united in marriage to Patty (Hosier) Karash at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford. They remained on the family farm.
He served as a member of the Oxford School Board and the Oxford Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd Johnson and wife, Avis; grandson, Nathan Groteluschen; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Sparks and Dean Roberts.
Survivors include his wife, Patty of Oxford; two sons, Randy Karash and wife, Mariana of Oxford and Gene Johnson and wife, Dana of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Terri Groteluschen and husband, Lonnie of Humphrey; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Joedman and husband, Henry of Aurora, Carol Ann Quinn and husband, George of Oxford, and Ronna Sparks of Franktown, Colo.; brothers-in-law, Steve Hosier and wife, Irene of Oxford; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, with the Rev. David Otten and Vicar B.J. Fouts officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m., with the family greeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
