Terra Bishop and Aimee Harms led Hayes Center girls against Medicine Valley.

"We come out extremely slow only scoring four points in the first half," said Cardinals Coach Krystal Sauser.

"Defensively the girls picked up their game in the second half. We need to be more aggressive on offense and improve our shooting percentage."

Bishop put in 11 points for the Cardinals and Harms had 3. Lichelle Large led in rebounds with 7 and Jaimie Lapp and Rebecca Gigax both had 4.

Kadee Arensdorf led the Maywood girls in their game against Arapahoe.

Arensdorf put in 8 points and had 7 rebounds, and 1 assist. Mel Nordgard followed with 6 points and had 2 assists and Staci Koester had 4 points.

Staci and Susan Koester both led in rebounds with 9 and Brook Koester had 7. Susan led in blocks with 3 and Michelle Hastings and Staci had 3 steals.

Luke Clifford and Jake Rowley led the Hayes Center boys to their win against Medicine Valley.

"I thought we came out and played extremely well defensively and that allowed us to be able to get out into transition," said Cardinals Coach Louis Cuellar.

"We also rebounded extremely well. Tonight's win should give us some confidence going into Friday's game."

Clifford posted 15 points for the Cardinals. Rowley trailed with 12 points and had 3 steals and 8 rebounds.

Nathan Strasburg put in 9 points. Matt Gohl led the team in rebounds with 11 and Tyler Clifford had 8. Tyler also had 5 steals and Gohl had 3.

Josh Kershaw posted 17 points to the Hitchcock County win over Maywood.

"This was a good first round game," said Falcons Coach Mike Tines. "Our kids came out focused and played smart the whole game." David Matson and Austin Renfro both added in 8 points and Sam Matson had 7.

Ryan Hazen led the Maywood boys. Hazen had 6 points and 1 steal. Rich Davidson, Trenton Whitman, and Casey Dixon all had 2 points. Dixon also led in rebounds with 4 and had 1 steal.

"This game didn't go like we had hoped," said Tigers Coach Jeff Koehler.

Hitchcock's man to man defense really confused us offensively for some reason. We never really got into our man offense to run something clean.

"We did move the ball well but we were settling for that 15 foot jumper that just wouldn't go down. We tried running some set plays to try and got some lay up looks, but it seemed like it didn't matter what shot we had, we just couldn't get the ball to fall tonight.

"Defensively we played well, I thought we made them move the ball and work for a shot. We only gave up seven offensive boards which is a huge improvement from Friday night's game with Wallace.

Maywood skips to the final round to vie for a fifth place finish on Saturday.

Hitchcock County and Dundy County will face off in the second round on Friday beginning at 8 p.m.

Arapahoe and Hayes Center's boys play first at 5 p.m. at the McCook Senior High gymand Southwest and Medicine Valley play at the Junior High gym at 5 p.m.
