Alberta Jane (Towle) Schlaefli

SWEETWATER, Texas -- Alberta Jane (Towle) Schlaefli, 89, died Friday (Nov. 17, 2006) at Nolan Nursing and Rehabiliation Center in Sweetwater.

She was born Nov. 18, 1915, at Weeping Water, the daughter of Gordon and Beulah (Welch) Towle at the home of her grandfather, Dr. Albert C. Welch. She was a graduate of Trenton High School with the class of 1933.

She married Lyle Schlaefli in 1940, at the Episcopal Church in San Antonio, Texas. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, Vallejo, Calif., and Hobbs and Gallup, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; a brother, Kenneth Towle; one sister, Yvonne (Towle) Carson; and a daughter, Gay 'Gig' Lytle.

Survivors include her son, Tom Schlaefli of Las Cruces, N.M.; one sister, Devonnabelle (Towle) Reynolds of Trenton; grandchildren, Dr. Celeste Goodwin of Sweetwater, Texas, and Belinda Gamboa and Scott Hill of Lubock, Texas; nieces, Marilyn (Towle) Holbron of Hobbs, N.M., Sibyl Strange of Cloudcroft, N.M., Celeste Fenichel of London, England; and a nephew, John Reynolds of Simi Valley, Calif.

Inurnment will be in the Trenton Cemetery at a later date.
