June Helen Louise Martens 91, died Thursday (Nov. 16, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook.
She was born Nov. 10, 1915, in Pender to Henry Herman and Elizabeth Wilhelmina (Rowe) Martens. She graduated from Pender High School.
She made her home in Hardington for 22 years. She moved to Holdrege and then to North Platte. She finally moved to McCook where she resided for the past 26 years.
While living in these communities, she was employed by their Elk's Clubs as a waitress, bartender, cook and janitor. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Martens; two brothers, Helmuth and Allen Martens; and one sister, Rita May.
Survivors include her brother, R.A. "Pete" Martens and wife, Ursula, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; special friend, Ursula Bernard and the late Douglas Bernard; and one niece and two nephews.
Graveside services were today at 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery with the Rev. John Strecker-Baseler officiating. Committal will follow.
