ARVADA, Colo. -- Francis M. "Mel" Eaton, 81, died Thursday (Nov. 154, 2006).
He was born March 5, 1925, on a farm in Franklin County.
He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Thetis Bay (CVE90) in the South Pacific and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Kishwaukee (AOG10) and the USS Catalpa (AN9).
On Nov. 21, 1955, he married Vera A. Ackermann in McCook. They moved to Arvada, Colo., in 1960.
He was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation in Indianola, McCook and Denver for 37 years. After retiring in 1983, he was self-employed, contracted to EDS and Touche-Rouse until 1991.
He was a charter and life member of in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5862 in Indianola, was a past commander of Post 1652 in McCook and was a former member and officer in the Military Order of the Cooties.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; daughter Debra L. and husband, Tom Twisselman of McKittrick, Calif.; three sons, John W. and wife, Twyla Eaton of Centennial, Colo., Kevin E. and wife, Rickee of Arvada, and Robin L. and wife, Margaret Eaton, also of Arvada; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held at Peach Lutheran Church in Arvada.
