PALISADE -- Duane "Pete" Steinbeck, 76, died Tuesday (Nov. 14, 2006) at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
He was born Jan. 7, 1930, northwest of Imperial to Richard and Mary (Bernard) Steinbeck. The family moved to Benkelman, where he attended school. They later moved south of Wauneta, where he assisted on the family farm.
On Jan. 11, 1960, he married Karen Karrleen Andrew in Benkelman. They lived and farmed south of Wauneta. In 1967, they moved to Kearney. He worked for Peavey Grain Company for ten years and later Eaton Corporation for 19 years. He retired in 1991 and they moved to Republican City. Due to his health he moved to a care facility in Kearney and later Wauneta.
He was a long time member of the Kearney Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Palisade; two daughters, Janice Hinrichsen and husband, Alex of Elm Creek and Denise Thames of Kearney; three sisters, Mildred Stamm and husband, Bud of Lawrence, Okla., Darlene Woodside and husband, Paul of Kearney and Bernita Conklin of Topeka, Kan.; one brother, Everett Steinbeck and wife, Viola of National City, Calif.; three brother-in-laws, Jim Andrew and wife, Pearl of Palisade, Albert Andrew and wife, Janette of North Platte and Ivan Andrew of Norfolk; one sister-in-law, Sharon Andrew of Palisade; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m., (CT) at the Palisade Cemetery, with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (CT) at the Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.
Memorials may be given in his name.
