OBERLIN -- Charley R. Vavroch 87, died Monday? (Nov. 13, 2006) at Decatur County Hospital.
He was born Jan. 16, 1919, in rural Oberlin to Joseph and Clara (Petracek) Vavroch. He was raised on a farm nine miles southeast of Oberlin. He attended country school and graduated from Decatur County High School in 1938.
He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and after his discharge returned to the family farm.
He married Marie Jean Hickert on Aug. 12, 1961, in New Almelo, Kan. He was a farmer. They lived on the family farm before moving to Oberlin in 1982.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post No. 70, VFW, and the ZCBJ Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mildred Pavlicek, and brother-in-law, Ralph Pavlicek.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Jean Vavroch of Oberlin; two sons, Allan Vavroch of Manhattan, Kan., and Kevin Vavroch of Shawnee, Kan.; one daughter, Janice Doyle of Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Pauline Kiser and husband, Vincil of Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church in Oberlin, with the Rev. Henry Saw Lone officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m., until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Sacred Heart Church and Cedar Living Center.
