An American soldier stands just inside the front door of the Museum of the High Plains on Norris Avenue in downtown McCook, awaiting visitors to the museum on Veterans Day Saturday. The fiberglass figure, a World War II foot soldier, was created by Cambridge sculptor Gary Ginther as a temporary display at a cemetery at Oxford. Ginther loaned the figure to the museum when it was replaced at the cemetery with a bronze sculpture. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
