For 80 years, area residents have taken a great deal of pride in their local college. On Tuesday, a formal ceremony at McCook Community College will unveil a lasting tribute to that pride and to the citizens who have been an important part of the college's growth.

The formal unveiling of MCC's Donor Tree of Life and Wall of Honor, is set for Tuesday in McMillen Hall, 1205 E. Third, on the MCC campus. Students, faculty, alumni, friends and community members are encouraged to join the McCook College Foundation in celebrating the college's 80th anniversary and 80 years of success.

Stephanie Gunter, McCook College Foundation Director notes that as MCC celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, it's a natural time to reflect on the community's commitment and to celebrate MCC's performance in providing a quality and affordable education.

Tuesday's ceremony will establish a permanent tribute to those individuals and organizations that have helped MCC grow from its humble beginnings in the old downtown YMCA building to its current nine-building campus.

"The McCook College Foundation honors this legacy of excellence, success, pride and generosity by establishing a Donor Recognition Program acknowledging the long history of philanthropy for MCC and implementing recognition for all future donors," she said.

An open house hosted by the McCook College Foundation and MCC, starts at 4:30 p.m. The open house will include self-guided tours of the recently remodeled Weeth Theatre and new music area in Tipton Hall, the Graphic Arts area in the Wrightstone Fine Arts Building and the recently constructed MCC Memorabilia Area in the lower level of von Riesen Library.

Following refreshments in the McMillen Hall lobby at 5:15 p.m., the formal dedication of the Donor Tree of Life and the Wall of Honor is set for 5:30 p.m. Those slated to speak include Dr. Richard Tubbs, Vice President of MCC, Dr. Michael Chipps, President of Mid-Plains Community College, McCook College Foundation Vice President Norma Stevens and McCook College Foundation President Dr. Michael E. Owens.  The McCook College Foundation is sponsoring the Donor recognition Program at MCC.

The open house and self-guided tours will continue through 7 p.m.

In conjunction with this week's Donor Recognition Ceremony, MCC is celebrating 80 years of success with a series of news articles featuring McCook Junior College alumni and current McCook Community College students.
