CAMBRIDGE -- Honor Jane Shoemaker 91, died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2006) at the Cambridge Manor.
She was born in Hyannis on Sept. 4, 1915, to William and Lora Amelia (Hamilton) Richards. She graduated from David City High School in 1932 and attended Doane College in Crete graduating in 1939, with a BA in English. While at Doane, she was active in Drama, Drum and Bugle Corps, Cardinal Key and was a member of the Phi Sigma Tau Sorority.
She taught school in Beatrice and Cambridge.
She married Ome Shoemaker on Dec.13, 1942, at Franklin, at services conducted by her father who was a minister. They made their home in Cambridge. Ome preceded her in death on July 15, 1999.
She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, holding many offices in the church and women's fellowship. She was also a member of the Music Club, Eastern Star and PEO Chapter BC of Cambridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Step-mother Anna (Howard) Richards; two brothers, J. Lawrence Lorney and Charles Unc Richards; and a granddaughter, Jamie Ann Shoemaker.
Survivors include her four sons, William E. and wife, Vickie Shoemaker of Cambridge, G. Franklin Shoemaker of McCook, J. Richard Shoemaker of Cambridge, and D. Charles Shoemaker and wife, Lynne Friedewald of Hastings; one daughter, Kathryn Ann and husband, Randy Heitmann of Cambridge; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cambridge with the Rev. Dana Keener officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge.
Memorials may be left in her name to the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Cambridge.
