BEAVER?CITY?-- June A. Hedges, 80, died Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2006) at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege.
She was born July 4, 1926, at Mankato, Kan., to Bernard and Eunice (Lawrence) Sawyer. She was raised in Kansas and moved to Beaver City in 1943. She graduated from Beaver City High School in 1945.
She married Walter Hedges in late September 1947. They farmed 3 1/2 miles west of Beaver City. She moved into Beaver City following Walt's death on Jan. 28, 1988.
She worked for G.W. Shafer and Son Store in Beaver City for 40 years. She was also an accomplished seamstress serving several people in the community.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Grange and American Legion Auxiliary, all of Beaver City.
She was preceed in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, and one brother, Lawrence.
Survivors include her two sons, Tim Hedges and wife, Pat of Kearney and Max Hedges and wife, Kathy of Loveland, Colo.; one daughter, Nyla Bitunjac and hsuband, John of St. Joseph, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Beaver City, with the Rev. Robert Berlie officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to the services on Friday at the church.
