Kirby Schmidt of Indianola and Josh Smith of Olathe, Kan., announce their engagement and upcoming wedding.

Parents of the couple are Les and Nancy Schmidt of Indianola and Robert and Linda Smith of Olathe.

Grandparents of the couple are Don and Mariann Ogorzolka of Indianola, Peggy Schmidt of McCook, Nettie Voorhees of Cambridge and Glen and Ruth Clark and Mrs. Pat Smith of Des Moines, Iowa.

The bride-to-be is a 2002 graduate of Republican Valley High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Doane College. She is employed at Whelan and Scherr in Hastings and will receive her Certificate of Paralegal Studies from the College of St. Mary in December.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2001 graduate of Olathe South High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Doane College. He is employed at Intervet in DeSoto, Kan.

The couple is planning a Dec. 9, 2006, ceremony at St. Catherine's Church in Indianola.
