NORTH PLATTE -- The McCook High School boys tennis team lost four varsity and nine junior varsity matches in a duel at North Platte Thursday.

The duel was the final regular-season tune-up before the Class B state tournament at Lincoln next Thursday and Friday.

"The team finished the regular season with a tough loss to a very talented North Platte squad," said McCook tennis coach Matt Wiemers.

"It wasn't the way we wanted to end the season, but the team competed well against a solid team. We finish the season with a 5-5 duel record.

"I commend the team for how well they have played this season and the effort they have given.

"I have seen improvement in everyone on the team and I'm excited with the development of our junior varsity.

"We have some talented players who have done a great job this season and have been dedicated to the development of their game.

"I want to thank the team for their hard work, positive attitudes, and making the season fun.

"The varsity will now begin to prepare for the trip to Lincoln next week for the state tournament. Monday the pairings will be released and the team is excited to see who they draw.

"With how well we finished the final two weeks of the season, I'm optimistic about our chances at state."
