OBERLIN -- Pauline Louise Zander, 97, died Sunday (Aug. 23, 2006) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
She was born Dec. 23, 1908, in Ludell, Kan., to Henry and Sophie (Niermeier) Holste. She was raised in the Ludell township and attended Christian Day School of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ludell.
On Sept. 25, 1938, she married August L. Zander in Ludell. They moved to Norton and later farmed southwest of Oberlin. She worked as a homemaker.
She later moved to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin. She was a member of the St. John's Church of Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, August; parents Henry and Sophie Holste; one brother Ernst Holste; three sisters, Charlotte Nietfeld, Margaret Hesterman and Amanda Nietfeld; and one grandson, Michael Frank.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Norbert Zander and wife, Nannette of Topeka, Kan.; one daughter, Mary Frank and husband, Rev. Arnold of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Mathilda "Tillie" Henningsen of Atwood; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin, with the Rev. Rick Langness officiating. Interment will follow in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 6-8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m., and Tuesday from 8-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Pauline Zander Memorial Fund.
