LEBANON -- Viron Leroy Johnson, 74, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2006) at his home south of Lebanon in Decatur County, Kan.
He was born Feb. 17, 1932, at Oberlin, to Harlow S. and Evelyn Valentine (Hendricks) Johnson. The family lived in California, Kansas and Nebraska during his childhood. He graduated from high school at Dighton, Kan.
On Jan. 22, 1955, he married Christiana Louisa Marie "Christa" Woelfel at Bad Hall, Austria. Following his honorable discharge from the service on March 1, 1955, they moved to Oberlin, later moving to the Goat Hill Farm south of McCook. In 1959, they moved to the family farm south of Lebanon in Decatur County, where he farmed until retiring due to an automobile accident May 14, 1997.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Christa on Aug. 31, 2006.
Survivors include one daughter, Audry and husband David Smith of Independence, Kan.; two sons, Ronald Johnson of Lebanon and Richard and wife, Lisa Johnson of Saling, Kan.; three grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Joint services for Viron and Christa will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Danbury and Marion Cemetery at Danbury.
Friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook Saturday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
