Construction projects

Debra Petsch of P&G Excavating, McCook, runs a tractor and sheep's foot through drying mud, and her dad, Wendell Peters, dumps a load of fresh dirt on the location of new tennis courts at McCook Junior-Senior High. The new six-court complex north of the McCook YMCA will replace the three courts situated now between the junior and senior highs. After the dirt work is completed, LERenner Sports Surfaces of Denver will construct a "post-tensioned concrete court system" with six courts, low lights, spectator seating and walkways for $252,400. The board of education is seeking separate bids for conduit and wiring, poles and light fixtures. The courts will be open to the public when they are not in use by the schools. Buffalo grass sod from the tennis court location is being relocated onto the front lawn at McCook Elementary. The foundation has been poured for the new wrestling practice facility under construction south of the gym and the current wrestling practice room at McCook High School. When it is completed, the $75,000-80,000 60x87-foot metal frame building will be donated to the school. Money for the building and its construction has been and is being donated to the project. Organizers hope the facility will be completed before the 2006-2007 wrestling season.
