Minden golfer claim McCook invite crown; Bison junior Justine Hager places second with a 91
McCook High School junior Justine Hager earned second-place medalist honors at the McCook Invitational girls golf tournament Friday afternoon at Heritage Hills.
Hager finished with a 91 (46-45) and finished seven strokes behind first-place medalist Katie Keiser of Gothenburg, who fired an 84.
Minden won the team title with a 387 score.
Gothenburg shot 401, Lexington 427, Minden II 444, Holdrege 460 and McCook 547.
McCook's Alex Trew shot 132 (64-68), Becky Goodenberger 159 (76-83) and Kellanie Pinkal 165 (76-89).
Minden's Brittany Sampy placed third with a 93.
Other medal-winners were Gothenberg's Kylee Phillips 93, Minden's Meghan Bunger 96, Holdrege's Jordan Christensen 96, Minden's Sarah Maulsby 96, Minden II's Alex Exstrom 98, Lexington's Amanda Hansen 99 and Minden's Lauren Gokie 102.
"It was a real good place to start for Justine," said McCook girls golf coach Randy Ryser. "She could have contended for the title."
Ryser said he was pleased with the play of newcomers Trew, Goodenberger and Pinkal.
"I was tickled with our beginners finishing," Ryser said.
"They had the option of stopping after nine holes but stayed with it. Now they can get the scores lower."
The Bison girls golf team plays at Sidney Thursday and North Platte Friday.
