STRATTON -- Eugene Stanley "Gene" Laumann, 74, died Saturday (July 29, 2006) at his home near Stratton.

He was born July 26, 1932, in Stratton, to Albert D. and Antoinette M. (Faimon) Laumann and attended school in Stratton. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He received his honorable discharge in 1954.

After serving his country, he attended classes in Milford, where he became a certified diesel mechanic. He then worked in Wichita, Kan., for several years, and later worked as a mechanic overseas in Saudi Arabia, China, Korea, and finally Alaska, where he worked on the Alyeska Pipeline. After retiring, he returned to Stratton where engaged in farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Albert and Antoinette Laumann; and one brother, Elton Laumann.

Survivors included his sister, Joanne Laumann of McCook; and two brothers, Ted Laumann and wife, Joan of Sterling, Colo., and Joe Laumann of Stratton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratton, with the Rev. Fr. Sean Redmond officiating. Interment with military honors will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery in Benkelman.

The rosary will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratton.
