OBERLIN -- Charles W. Corcoran, 88, died Thursday (July 20, 2006) at Wheat Ridge Terrace in Oberlin.

He was born Aug. 7, 1917, to Clyde C. and Mayme (O'Toole) Corcoran southwest of Oberlin. He attended Addleman School, Oberlin Grade School and Decatur County High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1942-1945.

On May 27, 1961, he married Dorothy (Mousel) Metcalf, in Oberlin. He worked as a funeral director and was a furniture store owner and operator. He started the Avenue of Flags.

He was a life member of the American Legion, life member of the McCook Elks, Rotary, Decatur County Chamber of Commerce and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; stepson, Jack Metcalf; and four brothers, Edward, James, Lloyd and Joe.

Survivors include his stepson Sid Metcalf and wife, Cheryl of Danbury; step-daughter-in-law Karen Metcalf; and numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin, with the Rev James Hoover, the Rev. Henry Saw Lone and sister Marilyn Wall officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Vigil service will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home and 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the church and Monday at 8 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
