OBERLIN -- Mildred D. Fortin, 79, died Tuesday (July 18, 2006) at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
She was born Feb. 22, 1927, to Ernest H. and Martha D. (Volker) May in Oberlin. She was raised in the Logan Township in Decatur County. She attended St. John Parochial School, Decatur Community High School and St. John's College in Winfield, Kan.
On Sept. 16, 1960, she married Jack E. Fortin in Oberlin. They lived in Aurora, Colo., where she worked as a beautician and a school cook before returning to Oberlin.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and the L.W.M.L.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Martha; a daughter, Sandra Verzani; and two brothers Elbert and Harlan.
Survivors include her husband, Jack of Oberlin; three sons, Charles of Oberlin, Eugene, of Spokane, Wash., and Dan Morton of Nebraska; one daughter Linda Whitecotton of California; two brothers, Martin and wife, Evelyn, and Arthur and wife, Alice all of Oberlin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are Thursday at 2 p.m. at the St. John's Church in Oberlin, with Mr. Dennis Brown officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in rural Oberlin.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at the Pauls Funeral Hone in Oberlin and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Church and the Decatur Health Systems.
