C. Lee Bradt, died Monday (July 17, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 103.
He was born Feb. 24, 1903, in Otoe County, the son of the late Calvin S. and Nettie (Lee) Bradt.
In 1916, the family moved to Kimball County, where Lee graduated from rural school. He began farming in western Nebraska and northern Colorado.
On Sept. 29, 1928, he married Dorothy Dean at Denver, Colo., and they farmed in Weld County, Colo., until purchasing their farm in Kimball County near Bushnell.
They retired in 1963, moving to Loveland, Colo., before moving to Holdrege in 1973. They moved to McCook in 1977, where he spent the remainder of his life.
He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. He was a loving husband and father and was active in helping his family.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lois Lea Bradt in 1937 and by son-in-law, Rev. Eldo Kirkus on Feb. 19, 1976; four brothers, Elford, George, Gerald and Jay Bradt; four sisters, Rosemary Furrow, Nell Wheeler, Betty Bradt, and Joy Linzy.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bradt, and one daughter, Jean Kirkus of McCook; two grandchildren, Terrie Unger of Denver, Colo., and Kathy Kirkus, of McCook; three great-grandchildren, Stacey Freeburg and husband, Sam and Stefanie Unger all of Las Vegas, and Shawna Unger of Denver, Colo.; five great-great-grandchildren, Bailee, Jayden, Rylan, Cierra, and Nathan; one sister, Grace Gadeken of Kimball; relatives and friends.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery at Culbertson.
