TRENTON?-- John Nelson Underhill, 86, died Sunday (July 2, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook.
He was born April, 22, 1920, in Hitchcock County to George Fredrick and Anna Mabel (Jackson) Underhill. He grew up in the Cornell Community south of Trenton and graduated from Trenton High School.
He moved to Portland, Ore., where he attended Warner Pacific Bible College and also studied Radio Electronics. He moved to Michigan, where he was a radio engineer. He returned to the family farm in Nebraska in the 1960's. For a short time he operated the Underhill Radio operator south of Trenton.
On Feb. 9, 1973, he married Orpha Ellen McVicker at Oberlin. He spent his life farming in Nebraska and Kansas until going to El Dorado Manor Home on May 8, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Clarence, Ralph and Glenn Underhill and one-sister-in law, Ruth Underhill; and a brother in-law Daniel Alexander.
He is survived by his wife Ellen Underhill of Trenton, one brother Earl Underhill and wife Dolly of Gordon, one sister Mabel Fern Alexander of Guatemaula City, Guatemaula; and two sisters-in-law, Beulah Underhill of Linton, Ind., and Susan Underhill of Riverdale, relatives and friends.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with Rev. Johnny Walker officiating. Interment will be in the Cornell Cemetery at Trenton.
Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call Herrman Funeral Home in Trenton today until 9 p.m.
