MINDEN -- Ethel Hansen, 96, died Tuesday (June 27, 2006) at the Bethany Home in Minden.
She was born on June 1, 1910, in Kearney County, to John and Sarah (Borgaard) Shannon.
She attended Snowflake Country School until the eighth grade.
On March 27, 1929, she married Carl Hansen at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden where she was also baptized and confirmed.
After marriage she and Carl lived and farmed southeast of Norman, Nebraska. They retired and moved into Minden in 1972.
She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Norman until it closed and at that time they became members of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden.
She is preceded in death by her husband, in 1994, one son, Dick Hansen, son-in-law William "Bill" Nichol, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Nichol of Minden and Lois Beattie and her husband, Tom of McCook; daughter-in-law, Marlene Foglesong of Kearney; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Berke Landrum officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden from 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. on Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden or the Bethany Home in Minden.
