BEAVER CITY -- Opal Bland, 94, died Saturday, (June 24, 2006), at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege.
She was born March 5, 1912, at Table Rock, to Levi and Stella (Davis) Pettit.
She moved to the Wilsonville area in 1918. Opal graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1930. She taught country school for two years following graduation.
She married Bert Bland on Sept. 1, 1932, at Norton, Kan. Following the marriage they moved to Beaver City, where she has resided since. She was a cook in the Beaver City School system in the early 60's. She owned and operated the "O Square Cafe" from 1969 until 1971 in Beaver City. Later she was a cook at the Beaver City Manor for a number of years. She moved to Beaver City Assisted Living on Oct. 1, 2002, and then transferred to Beaver City Manor on Oct. 29, 2004. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver City.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Bert; son, Austin; four brothers, one sister and three grandchildren.
Survivors include son, Monty Bland and wife Cheryl of Omaha; daughter, Alberta Bland of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Beaver City, with Pastor Keith Theobald, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City.
Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, at 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver city and prior to services on Thursday at the church.
