MAYWOOD?-- Eva D. Schmitz, 98, lifelong Maywood area resident, died Wednesday (May 31,2006), at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 15, 1907 at Maywood, to Earl and Amy (Piper) Stone. She graduated from Kearney State College and taught rural schools in the Maywood area. On December 25, 1930, she married Harry "Dutch" Schmitz, at McCook. They opened the Farmers State Bank in 1938 and later sold the bank to the Thuman Corporation. They continued to live in the area where they ranched for many years and were involved in various community projects.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; and her son, Edward Max Schmitz, in 1998.
Survivors include her two granddaughters, Angela (Delaney) Olstad of Houston, Texas, and Ginger Schmitz of Tampa, Fla., and also family member, Kathy Schmitz of Tampa, Fla.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am, Monday, at the Maywood Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Stan LaRue officiating.
Private family inurment will follow at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the Maywood Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
