ARAPAHOE -- Derryl Raymond Long, 83, formerly of Holbrook, died Wednesday (May 31, 2006) at Tri-Valley Hospital in Cambridge.

He was born April 29, 1923, at Maxwell, to Ora Michael and Frankie Ethel (Baker) Long. He grew up in the rural Cambridge area and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941.

On Nov. 24, 1946, he married Fae Mues in Arapahoe. They farmed in the Arapahoe and Holbrook areas until retiring in 2000. He moved into the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Nursing Home in April 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gertrude; and two brothers, Norris and Clarence.

Survivors include his wife, Fae of Arapahoe; six sons, Doug and wife, Sandra Long of Holbrook, Dale and wife, Nancy Long of Holbrook, Duane and wife, Kathy Long of Holdrege, David and wife, Linda Long of Norton, Kan., Richard and wife, Lori Long of Kearney, and Dennis and wife, Janice Long of Lincoln; one daughter, Rosemary and husband, Kevin Johnson of Clive, Iowa; one brother, Roger and wife Mary Ellen Long of Holbrook; three sisters, Rozella Jacobsen of Glendale, Calif., Marjorie Dixon of Omaha and Mary and husband, Paul Ford of Henderson, Nev.; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Ella Missing Community Center in Arapahoe with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Burial will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery in Holbrook.

Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe; and Monday, prior to the services, at the Ella Missing Community Center.
