FARMINGTON, N.M. -- Raymond Albert Folkers, 72, of Farmington, N.M., died Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M.

He was born in Culbertson, to Louis and Anna (Miller) Folkers on Oct. 5, 1933.

After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea with the 7th Infantry Regiment.

After his discharge, he moved to Farmington in 1957 and worked for 40 years in automobile rental and sales.

He was a lifetime member of Elk Lodge No. 1474 and VFW No. 2182 in Farmington. He was also a member of the Eagles Club , Arie No. 2769 in McCook since 1968. He was a member of the Farmington Red Coats for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Berry and Louise Peterson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley of Farmington; son, Stephen Ray Folkers of Las Cruces, N.M.; a brother, Rev. Robert Folkers and wife, Connie of Bellevue.

The body was cremated and an inurnment for family members is scheduled for a later date.
