Oberlin -- Dena Hartzog Gillespie, 96, died Tuesday (May 9, 2006) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

She was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Edmond, Kan.

She was raised in Prairie View, Kan., and attended school at Luctor School in Prairie View.

On April 11, 1928, she married Harold Hartzog. The couple made their home on a farm near Long Island, Kan. and then moved to Agra.

On May 18, 1940, she married George Gillespie. They made their home on a farm near Jennings, moved to Jennings and finally to Oberlin. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and attended Jennings United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Hartzog and George Gillespie; siblings, Julia, Charlie, Nola, Floyd and Louis Corbin and Chester Droeze; grandchildren, Rose Marie Way and Michael Krizek; and great-grandson, Alan Fullbright.

Survivors include sons Earl and wife, Patty Hartzog of Hoxie, Kan., Daryl and wife, Marjorie Hartzog of Jennings, Robert "Bob" and wife, Joyce Hartzog of Oberlin and Floyd and wife, Erma Gillespie of Newcastle, Texas; daughters Darlene and husband, Martin LaRue of Jennings and Dena Marie and husband, Daniel Way of Springfield, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, at the Jennings United Methodist Church with the Revs. Heidi Wiebe and Carrie Buhler officiating. Interment will be in the Jennings Cemetery.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Forch Funeral Home in Oberlin, and Friday, 8 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials may be given in her name to Jennings United Methodist Church or Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
