BARTLEY -- Donna Louise (Stewart) Burton, 75 of Bartley, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Hillcrest Nursing Home after a 14 year battle with cancer.

She was born August 19, 1930, to Robert and Gertrude (Matticks) Stewart at Spring Ranch, Nebraska. Her family moved to a farm north of Bartley when she was three.

She graduated from Bartley High School in 1948. She continued her education at Kearney State Teachers College, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught in Red Willow County at District 10 from 1949 - 1951 and District 21 from 1951 - 1953. She worked at the McCook Jr. High cafeteria from 1977 - 1995.

On May 10, 1952, she married Myrlin A. Burton at Bartley Christian Church. They made their home on the farm north of Bartley. To this union, two children were born, William and Patricia. Donna was very active in their farming operation.

She was baptized at the Indianola Church of Christ in 1947, and was a member of Bartley Christian Church for most of her life. In 2006, she transferred her membership to McCook Christian Church.

Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and all crafts, especially sewing and cross stitch.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gertrude; son-in-law, Danny Sughroue; and infant granddaughter, Brittany Lee Burton.

Survivors include her husband, Myrlin; daughter, Patricia Smith, and husband, Tom of Bartley; son, William "Bill' Burton and wife, Coralyn "Cori" of McCook; five grandchildren, Danette Sughroue of McCook, Tye Smith of Bartley, Brett, Brooke and Breanne Burton of McCook; brother, Kenneth Stewart and wife, Donna of Bartley; Sisters-in-law, Audrey Troester, Grace Burton and Goldene Burton; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Marian Raburn.

Memorials can be given in her name to McCook Christian Church.
