SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Doris Biddle, 101, died Sunday (March 26, 2006) in Sun City, Ariz.
Doris was born and raised in Wymore. She graduated from Nebraska State Teachers' College in Kearney, and returned to Wymore to teach English and drama in the junior/senior high school where two of her brothers were her students.
Doris married Klyte Burt, who took a teaching position at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis. The couple served as dorm parents for the boys' dormitory for many years.
She held local and state level offices in the United Methodist Women's organization, and became Dean of Missions. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, the PEO Sisterhood, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Following her husband's death, she moved to Sun City in 1977 and became actively involved in the Lakeview United Methodist Church, where she was twice President of the United Methodist Women there. She sang in the choir, and she directed several Easter pageants, which she had written and directed in Nebraska for many years. She was always willing to share her theatrical flair as a participant in civic and church activities.
She married Tom Biddle in 1984, he died in 1988.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Warren Kelly, and two sisters, Jessie Weaver and Peg Scott.
She is survived by a brother, Don Kelly, of Sun City; and a step-son, David Biddle of Carlsbad, California, .
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 11 at the Lakeview United Methodist Church in Sun City. Inurnment will be in the church Columbarium following the service. G
