ELSIE -- Dorothy Fuehrer, 80, died Friday (March 24, 2006) at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
She was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Elsie, to Frank and Bertha Osler. She grew up on the family farm. She attended high school in Imperial, graduating with the class of 1943. She attended Denver University for two years, and then graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1947 with a degree in education.
In 1945, she married Edwin Fuehrer in Imperial. The couple lived many years on their farm northwest of Imperial. She taught English, speech and history at Chase County High School in the 1950s and 60s.
From 1988 to 1990, she lived with her daughter Paula and family before moving to Imperial Manor in 1990.
She was a member of the Imperial Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was instrumental in setting up the pilot program at the Imperial Library that brought large-print books and films to nursing homes and senior housing complexes on a weekly basis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; and brother, Robert Osler.
Survivors include daughters, Paula Clifton and husband, Terry of Fort Collins, Colo., and Linda Straka of Aurora, Colo.; sons, Mark Fuehrer and wife, Debbie of Imperial, and Kurt Fuehrer and wife, Lisa of Imperial; brothers, Frank and John Osler of Imperial; sisters, Katherine Horn of Hutchinson, Kan., and Barbara Mann of Texas; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, (MST) at the First United Methodist Church of Imperial, with the Rev. Kay Alnor officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Imperial Public Library.
