BENKELMAN -- Charles "Charlie" Lee Sandman, 80, died Thursday (March 23, 2006) at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.
He was born April 20, 1925, to Ralph Gerhard and Gertrude May (Richards) Sandman at Beatrice.
The family moved from Harbine. He grew up near Wauneta and graduated from Wauneta High School.
He married Marilyn Elizabeth Behlke on September 12, 1948. He farmed near Benkelman until a heart attack limited his active participation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gertrude Sandman; his wife, Marilyn; brothers, Clarence, Virgil, Jack, Ralph Jr., Richard, and Gary; sisters, Leah, Bernice, and Irma.
He is survived by his sons Alan Sandman, Chuck Sandman and wife Andi, and Ron Sandman; very special friend and companion, Sandra Brunkhurst; sisters-in-law, Edie, Verna, Ona, and Bonnie Sandman and Verle Behlke; brother-in-law, Bill Neverve; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were today at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman with Rev. Brian Fong and Pastor Greg Sandman officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.
Memorials may be given his name.
