Dr. Bernard Leroy Lundberg

CRANBROOK, B.C. -- Dr. Bernard Leroy Lundberg, born Jan. 21, 1927 in McCook, died suddenly in Cranbrook B.C. on Feb. 27, 2006.

Survived by beloved daughters, Marcia Huckstep and Grace Scott; and his beloved sister Carol Lundberg Petersen, brother-in-law Gene Stuart Peterson; and nephews Roger and Steven Roscko; granddaughters Rachael Harriman, Leah Bodker, Lyndsey Bodker and Launi Bodker.

Preceded in death by parents Leroy and Gladys (Rozell) Lundberg.

Bernard's grandfather, Wesley Rozell drove a covered wagon west in the 19th century and was one of the first settlers in Red Willow County.

Bernard served in the American Army in World War II, and on return to the United States worked for a time as a fire jumper in Montana. He later attended the University of Nebraska, where he qualified in dentistry, which he practiced for many years in British Columbia, at the huge Mica Dam project on the Columbia River and latterly in Golden, British Columbia.

He was a philanthropist who was fond of animals all his life and contributed to a large number of animal charities, including the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Humane Society.

He was also a generous benfactor to his alma mater, through the University of Nebraska Foundation and contributed to the restoration of historic facilities at Fort Steele near Cranbrook, British Columbia. A private funeral Mass was conducted at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, March 20, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook with the Rev. Samuel Williams officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
