SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- M. LaVonne Year, 82, died Sunday (Feb. 26, 2006) at Avera McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls, S.D., as the result of a stroke.
She was born Mary LaVonne Buckley on May 13, 1923, to Grover and Margaret Ellen (McGlone) Buckley in Brookings, S.D. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1941.
She married Richard H. "Dick" Year on Jan. 1, 1948.
She worked in the accounting department at Woolworth's Five and Dime Store in Brookings until the couple moved to Estelline, S.D. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1950. She worked in several retail businesses in Sioux Falls until retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Altar Society, Beta Sigma Pi Sorority and a bridge club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1987; and a brother, Billie.
Survivors include children, Deborah and David MacKinnon of Portland, Ore., Richard A. "Dick" Year and Sally Walters of Sioux Falls, Peggy Year and Rob Dump of Hartington, S.D., and Doug Year of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Lorraine Schuld of Mount Angel, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian was at the Christ the King Catholic Church with interment at St. Michael Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
