Evelyn Valentine (Johnson) Logan died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, upon arrival at Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 99.

She was born Feb. 14, 1907, in Decatur County, the daughter of Charles C. and Elsie (Simonsen) Hendricks. Evelyn grew up on the family farm south of Lebanon in Decatur County. She graduated from Decatur County High School. She attended college and, for 11 years, she taught in rural school in Harlan County Township.

On June 16, 1929, Evelyn married Harlow Shaw "Bill" Johnson. They made their home at Oberlin until moving to McCook in 1934, where they farmed south of McCook. They retired from farming and, in 1966, Evelyn became the receptionist at Herrmann Funeral Home for 22 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlow on May 13, 1984.

On Sept. 1, 1986, Evelyn married Erwin V. Logan and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1988. She returned to the family farm south of Lebanon, where she lived until moving to Hillcrest Nursing Home in March 2000.

Evelyn is survived by one son, Viron L. Johnson and his wife, Christa of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Audry Smith and husband, David of Independence, Kan., Ronald Johnson of Lebanon and Richard Johnson and his wife, Lisa of Salina, Kan.; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Shelburne Hendricks of Denver, Colo.; and one sister, Neva Gibson of North Palm Beach, Fla. She is also survived by Scott and Todd Graves and Sandra, Laurie and Jauna Kay Herrmann who adopted her as their special grandmother. She will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Thurman officiating. Interment will be in the Danbury and Marion Cemetery at Danbury.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., which is in charge of arrangements.
