Four area girls teams going to state

'Big Dance' in Lincoln

LINCOLN -- Nebraska girls state basketball tournament begins Thursday at varius sites in Lincoln.

Area teams gearing up for the action are Southern Valley and Perkins County in Class C1 and Wauneta-Palisade and Cambridge in D1.

Southern Valley begins Thursday against 22-1 Ashland -Greenwood at 11:30 a.m.

The Eagles travel to Lincoln boasting a 18-3 record. The game begins at 11:30 a.m.

Perkins County begins their C-1 play at 5 p.m. at Pershing.

The Plainsmen are 18-2 and play 20-3 Kearney Catholic.

The winners of these two games will play Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In the first round of D1 state play, 20-3 Wauneta-Palisade and 16-5 Cambridge square off at Lincoln Southeast.

The game begins at 9 p.m., with the winner playing the Cross County/Pope John game winner on Friday.

Wauneta-Palisade downed Eustis-Farnam 48-36 in the district championship Friday.

The Knights hung tight to the Broncos in the first half, but lost their grip in the second falling behind.

Kiane Alberts led the Broncos with 17 points.

Betsy Anderjaska tallied 14 points and Stephanie Padilla had 9.

Jessika Lehmann and Jordan Rieker led Eustis-Farnam in scoring both with 8 points. Katie Fagot followed with 7 points and Chelsea Wolf had 6.

The Broncos take on Cambridge Thursday in the D1 state tournament in Lincoln.

Game time at Lincoln Southeast High School is 9 p.m.

The winner advances to the 9 p.m. semifinal game Friday.
