KEARNEY -- Joy Mae (DeOss) Burton Arendell , 76, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at Mount Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney.

Joy was born April 24, 1929 to Francis Henry and Ollie Mae (McClellan) DeOss in Holbrook. Joy was the third of four children.

Joy grew up in Holbrook and attended Holbrook Public School graduating in 1947. In 1948 Joy completed training as an Airline Communications Stenographer in Omaha.

On Oct. 8, 1948, Joy married Ralph Myrl Burton. To this union five children were born; Jacqueline Rae, Ralph Michael, Max Dewayne, William Joe and Joy Lynn. Joy worked as a nurse's aide, as well as at TRW, Dayco and Cornbelt Chemical prior to her retirement.

Joy was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in McCook, and she treasured the friendship and support shown to her. Joy was a loving and positive force in her children's lives, and always encouraged them to achieve as much as possible. Although Joy's life was hard at times, she kept her faith in God, her sense of humor and did the best she could.
