Alfred Glaves Jr., 88, died Saturday (Feb. 11, 2006) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born on March 28, 1917, in Sheffield, England, to Alfred and Selina (Twibelle) Glaves Sr. At the age of 13, he and his parents came to the United States and settled on the East Coast. They later moved to the Chicago, Ill., area. Alfred received his high school education through North America Correspondence.

On Feb. 28, 1948, he married Loretta Ann Loomis. They lived for a time near Chicago until moving to Colorado Springs, Colo., where they were owners and operators of Boulder Street Laundry. They moved to the western slope for some time before moving to North Platte in 1991. In 2001, they moved to McCook.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Selina Glaves, and a brother, Ronald Glaves.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Glaves of McCook, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be in Libertyville, Ill., later in the week.

Memorials are being accepted in his name.
