State within reach for Rawlings, Cook

NORTH PLATTE -- Rebecca Rawlings and Alyssa Cook are both close to qualifying for state in diving.

Bison divers competed at North Platte on Friday and Kearney on Saturday.

Rawlings placed first at both meets.

Matt Hall continues to dominate the boys side with a first-place finish at both meets.

"Rebecca is within 7 points of qualifying for state and Alyssa is with in 20 points," said McCook diving coach Jim Brandt. "I see both of them qualifying at GNAC in Hastings."

Bison swimmers faced Hastings and North Platte on Friday.

Renetta Rawlings improved her 500 free time for the fourth time in a row, by 8.5 seconds.

Madison Wagner improved her 200 free time by 2.5 seconds and Kelsey Korell improved her time in the 50 free by 2 second.

"A two second improvement in the 50 is quite an accomplishment," said McCook swim coach Lori Jumps. "I have been very impressed with the effort the swimmers have put into improving their times. The swimmers know that improvement of themselves is more important than how they place at the meet."

Divers will compete Friday at the Greater Nebraska Activities Conference meet -- the final regular season meets -- in Hastings. Swimmers compete Saturday.
